Launching safely into space with electron beam technology

At EADS in Munich, among other things, the booster rockets for the European Ariane launch vehicle are being developed and manufactured with Steigerwald EB machines. In this case the emphasis of the EB welding process is working on larger components with complex welding seam shapes or areas to be processed. Welding here takes place in a Steigerwald electron beam chamber machine. This enables even complex work pieces, which would otherwise have to be fabricated from a single piece at great expense, to be cost-effectively welded together out of several parts to safely make a whole unit.
